Forbes wrote a great post about the Flipped Classroom titled: What is the Flipped Classroom Model and Why is it Amazing? If you're interested in a birds-eye view of a Flipped Classroom, this is a great resource. It can be accessed here! They also included an infographic which I will share part of below. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you "the gist":
1. Provides more 1:1 time with the teacher.
2. Allows students to learn at their own pace.
3. Encourages mastery learning.
4. Levels the playing field.
5. Addresses absenteeism.
6. Is an excellent diagnostic tool.
7. Encourages students teaching students.
8. Involves parents.
Critics of the Flipped Classroom (FC) will argue that the FC:
1. Makes students have more "screen time".
2. Gives students more homework.
3. Adds to the digital divide.
4. Leads to corporate profit rather than profit with student knowledge.
5. Does not help students become critical thinkers.
First things first, if you are new to Twitter Chats like I was a few months ago, check out this AMAZING google doc spreadsheet with a general layout of edchats by day of the week and time. You'll never miss an #edchat again!
Here are a few great Twitter resources I stumbled upon while exploring the hashtag #flipclass - enjoy!
Resource #1:
I also participated in a Twitter chat on Tuesday 7/17/2015 at 7:00PM EST. Here is some of the conversation and below is a sample response or two. It was great networking with like-minded folks! I am not new to Twitter chats.. I use them regularly for PD on a professional level as well as a personal level with running. I participate weekly in a #runchat on Twitter- give it a try if you enjoy the sport!
Topic:
- Enjoy my short screencast on the decoding strategies we use in small-group at our elementary building. I send this out to my students and parents at the beginning of the school year so that they are well-versed with the terminology that we will use throughout the year. I used the app Explain Everything to make my screencast video and then uploaded it onto YouTube- in case you're wondering or excited to make your own! I love the screencasting apps- it's one of my favorite ways to incorporate technology into my classroom!
Be sure to check out my Flipboard magazine on Interactive Whiteboards. I found some GREAT resources this week with the help of the #flipchat and #interactivewhiteboard hashtags! |
